Malta Union of Teachers registers trade dispute on long-overdue indefinite contracts for supply LSAs and teachers
The Malta Union of Teachers has declared a trade dispute with the Education Authorities on a number of Supply LSAs and Teachers who are entitled to an indefinite contract.
The Union incessantly communicated with the Education Authorities concerning these members in state schools who have been eligible for an indefinite status for over two years but who have, for purely bureaucratic reasons, remained pending to-date.
The Union has been requesting the Directorate for Corporate Services of the Ministry concerned to process these cases for months on end, which requests remained unheeded to the detriment of the members concerned.
Moreover, the Union gave a clear ultimatum to the said Directorate to process all pending cases by the 10th June 2014 so that this completely unacceptable situation is resolved once and for all.
However, the Union is informed that the process is still pending, let alone nearing completion.
“In view of the fact that these employees’ indefinite contract of employment is long overdue, the MUT has registered a trade-dispute with the Education Authorities on this matter.
“The Union is also reserving the right to issue industrial directives to the employees concerned and to take all action permissible by law if the situation remains unresolved,” the MUT said.
