In the Press: EC requests clarification on Budget

The European Commission has asked for more information on Malta's 2015 Budget, along with four other eurozone countries, after drafts of the Budget were sent to Brussels last week. The EC was requesting clarification and a spokesman said that it did not necessarily mean that it would have to be revised.

Speaker Anglu Farrugia yesterday declared that there was prima facie evidence that minister Konrad Mizzi was guilty of a breach of privilege. Farrugia's ruling concerned allegations Mizzi brought against George Pullicino in parliament earlier this week about a PV contract with the Alberta consortium.

2014 saw only a 58c-per-week adjustment in the cost of living, the lowest since 1984, according to the National Statistics Office. The NSO also released data showing that in September, the Retail Price Index showed a 0.3% rise in prices.

Jean Claude Junker's European Commission was voted in yesterday, with 423 votes in favour, 209 against and 67 abstentions. The new cabinet includes a slight reshuffle of responsibilities.
