In the Press: Maltese banks pass ECB stress test

HSBC Malta and Bank of Valletta have both passed stress tests conducted by the European Central Bank. 25 of the eurozone's 130 biggest banks failed the test, with a collective shortfall of €25 billion last year.

The Nationalist Party held its first general convention, under the title 'Idea Malta'. Speakers from various sectors addressed the audience and leader Simon Busuttil said that the PN needed to earn the trust of the people once more and focus on the creation of wealth rather than the spending of it.

PM Joseph Muscat said that the 58c rise in the cost of living allowance is not enough. He said that the upcoming budget will aim to help those that need it most. The low rise, he said, could not be changed by the government unless the several unions and employers involved agreed to it.

The Malta Independent

15 cruise liners are expected to dock in Gozo between April and November next year, down from the projected 24. The discrepancy was explained by the tourism ministry as a normal fluctuation in bookings and that the actual amount would not be known until the vessels actually arrive.
